Café Chef

Adkins & Cheurfi Recruitment is seeking a full-time Cafe Chef on behalf of a pioneering charity in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

This charity, established in 2019, is dedicated to making the city’s open spaces enjoyable and beneficial for everyone. They are committed to maintaining safe parks, providing great environments for both wildlife and people, and creating spaces valued by all. With support from core partners such as Newcastle City Council, The National Trust, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, they work towards a sustainable future for 33 parks and 60 allotments.

The Café Chef plays a crucial role within the Cafes team, providing an unique opportunity for an experienced chef to influence the culinary offerings across all locations. You will be key in creating a profitable menu that aligns with consumer trends and embodies the café’s brand and values. Ensuring high standards of food safety is paramount, and you will lead the effort to embed this culture in the kitchen’s daily operations.

Reporting to the Cafe Business Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high quality food: Establish and maintain high food standards and practice at the cafe, ensuring excellent and consistent presentation.
  • Encouraging community engagement: Inspire greater use and enjoyment of the cafe by providing a food offer which reflects sales trends and customer feedback. 
  • Ensuring that sustainability is considered at every stage of the food preparation process, with environmentally friendly and ethical choices made where possible. 

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • A keen interest in cooking underpinned by recognised qualifications in food & preparation, or equivalent level of vocational experience in hospitality settings.
  • Practical cooking experience in restaurants or Cafes. 
  • Competency with kitchen machinery and equipment, to undertake practical food preparation work.
  • Commitment to Health and Safety compliance and safe working practices, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how to keep yourself and others safe while working in a kitchen.
